Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Lusaka and transfer to Chaminuka Lodge for overnight on dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2 & 3
Transfer back to Lusaka airport for you flight to Livingstone (with Proflight Airlink). Arrive Livingstone and transfer to Tongabezi Lodge (by Tongabezi). Overnight on full board and activities.
Activities included; Boat trip to Victoria Falls, canoeing on the Zambezi, Island lunch, Sanpan floating candlelit dinner, Visit to Mukuni Park, Museum tour, Sunrise and sunset boating, Guided bush walks, Fishing, Game drives, Introduction to Simonga village, Maramba market visit - All park fees and museum entrance fees are extra. As we are visiting Zambia's premiere parks most guests don't enter the park here.
Optional activites available at extra cost; Flights over the falls, Elephant back safaris, Visits to Livingstone Island, Crocodile and Snake Park, Golf at Elephant Hills, White Water Rafting, River-boarding the rapids, The gorge swing and Bungee jumping.
Day 4 & 5
Transfer to Livingstone airport for flight (Proflight Airlink) to Lusaka. Met by your guide and transfered to Kasanka National Park (6 hours drive). Arrive late afternoon to overnight at Wasa/Luombwa Lodge on full board basis.
We will go to the tree hide at 'Fibwe' for sundowners, this is generally rated as Africa's best vantage point for observing Sitatunga antelope. Perched 18 meters high in a 'Mululu' African Mahogany tree, it gives a panoramic view over the Kapabi swamp. Visitors often see more than 20 sitatunga in a single visit and the record is 94! These elusive antelope are less active during the hotter hours of the day and are best seen at dawn and dusk when they emerge to feed. Visitors occasionally also see crocodile, bushbuck, waterbuck, buffalo and elephant from the platform. Many species of birds, including coucals, mousebirds, bohm's bee-eaters, ross's and schalow's louries are seen here.
We will spend the following day exploring Kasanka National Park.
Day 6 & 7
Depart Kasanka National Park and drive to Shoebill Island camp / Bangweulu swamps. Overnight on full board and activities.
Starting just 50 kms to the North of Kasanka are the vast Bangweulu Wetlands. The area is divided into 3 main habitats, open water to the North West (near Samfya), huge swamps in the middle and around the southern and eastern fringes, seasonally flooded grass plains.
It is the swampy Lukulu river which are of interest to visitors. The area supports an incredible diversity of water-birds and plains-birds including the shoebill storks and home to massive herds of the black lechwe, an attractive species found only in the Bangweulu.
Elephant, buffalo, tsessebe, reedbuck, oribi and sitatunga are also adapted to life in this wetland environment. You don't have to be a birding fanatic to love Bangweulu.
Bangweulu is a great draw for birdwatchers attracting a profusion of waterfowl. Wattled crane, Saddle-billed stork, Spur-winged goose, Sacred Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Black-crowned Night Heron, White-cheeked Bee-eater, Swamp Flycatcher, Pink - throated and Fulbourne's Longclaw, Denham's Bustard and numerous ducks live here.
The papyrus swamps along the Lukulu river are also the breeding ground of the shoebill, a massive grey, do-do like bird found nowhere else in the sub-region. Bangweulu is probably the best place remaining in the world to see shoebill storks in the wild, and at the right time of year no visitor leaves disappointed.
Day 8, 9 & 10
Depart Shoebill camp and drive northwards to Shiwa Ng'andu. Overnight Shiwa House on fullboard and activities.
Shiwa Ngandu (also spelled Shiwa Ng'andu ) is a grand English-style country house and estate in the Northern Province of Zambia, about 12 km west of the Tanzam highway and half-way between Mpika and Chinsali. Its name is based on a small lake nearby, Lake Ishiba Ng'andu which in the Bemba language means 'lake of the royal crocodile'. The house itself is also known as 'Shiwa House'. It was the life-long project of an English aristocrat, Sir Stewart Gore-Browne who fell in love with the country after working on the Anglo-Belgian Boundary Commission determining the border between Rhodesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
From his boyhood, Gore-Browne had an ambition to own an estate like that of his aunt, Dame Ethel Locke King, at Weybridge in England. Although comparatively wealthy himself, he could not afford such an estate in Britain. Land in Northern Rhodesia was very much cheaper for white settlers. At the boundary commission he had come to admire the Bemba workers and so he travelled to their country looking for a site. Arriving at Lake Shiwa Ngandu in April 1914 with his Bemba servants and porters, he knew he had found it. We spend a full two days here to explore and absorb the dream of another - Sir Stewart Gore-Browne.
Activities include; a visit to Kapishya Hot Springs, Horse riding, boating, game walks, game drives, tour of the house, a farm tour, visits to the farm hospital and school, and enjoying the magic of this majestic home.
Day 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15
Depart Shiwa Ng'andu and drive to Delia Camp in North Luangwa National Park. Overnight on full board and safari activities basis.
Delia Camp is located on the banks of the famous Luangwa River, in the North Luangwa National Park, already known as the Africa's most prized treasure. Delia camp is the most luxury lodge in the North Luangwa National Park.
In the low lands of the Luangwa Valley there are three National Parks: South Luangwa, Luambe and North Luangwa. North Luangwa National Park has an approximate surface of 4700 square kilometres and is the wildest and more remote area in the Valley. It has only recently been opened to tourism. It's here where Delia Camp is located . The surroundings are magnificient and with no tourists. The following days will include walking safaris, game drives and night drives in this most remote of parks.
Day 16 & 17
Depart Delia Camp and drive southwards to Luambe National park. Overnight Luangwa Wilderness Lodge on a full board basis.
Luangwa Wilderness Lodge lies within Luambe National Park, in eastern Zambia. People in the know are describing Luambe National Park as the South Luangwa of 15 years ago. Given that Luangwa Wilderness Lodge is the only lodge in the park, you can make it your own private wilderness. Your visit here will help improve and maintain this stunning park for years to come.
Luambe is cradled on the banks of the Luangwa River in the Luangwa Valley, between the North and South Luangwa National Parks. Luangwa Wilderness Lodge offers exclusive accommodation and allows the visitor to experience a truly authentic and vibrant Africa.
Luambe National Park itself is comparatively small (about 35-38,000 hectares), but has a varied and beautiful landscape, and a large number of game, due to its year-round water-holding lagoons. Its riverside location also provides ringside seats to the elephant that come down to drink, and to hundreds of hippos in the water.
Day 18
Depart Luambe National Park and drive to South Luangwa National Park. Arrive late afternoon and overnight at Mushroom Lodge on full board basis.
Day 19, 20 & 21
Depart Mushroom Lodge and transfer to the Bush Camp - Bilimungwe or Kapamba bush camp. Full board, bar and activities.
Traditional yet quaint, Bilimungwe, is the epitome of the traditional African safari camp. Situated in the heart of the South Luangwa National Park, Bilimungwe's two defining features, the expansive open plain and the shady water hole, attract some of the most varied game within the park. From the porch of one of the four thatched en-suite chalets guests can observe game interacting along the open plain, or for a different view they need just travel a few feet to the communal deck where wildlife gather to drink at the secluded watering hole.
Kapamba Bush Camp overlooking the Kapamba River, the deck offers an ideal viewing point for the abundant wildlife that comes to drink at the river. The well-positioned deck is the focal point of the camp and serves as both the dining and bar area.
The camp is situated in a prime location on the picturesque Kapamba River, offering guests the chance to enjoy this untouched corner of the National Park. The luxurious surroundings are about six kilometres up the Kapamba River. From here it's a short walk to the neighbouring camp of Bilimungwe. So depending on the number of guests on this tour we may use both camps.
During your time in these bushcamps, walks, game drives and night drives will be undertaken.
Day 22
Transfer to Mfuwe airport for flight to Lusaka, overnight Chaminiuka Lodge on dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 23
Transfer back to Lusaka airport for flight back home.
