Help & Advice

Where to go, what to do and how much do we wish or 'need' to spend?

'The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.'
Augustine

How Vintage Destinations can help you...

1) Identify whether you should embark on a budget, comfort or luxury safari first! Simply remember that camping does not mean you have to be uncomfortable - quite the opposite!

2) Identify which destination(s) are best for you, based on what you know and long to see, where you have already visited, your time available and the season you wish to travel. Remember many parts of Africa are closed during the rains. e.g. Our 'Vintage Zambezi Camp' is closed from November to April each year as the rains make it impossible to operate.

3) Lastly we will design a sample tour that meets your general wishes, then fine tune it til it meets your expectations and more!

For your information...

Budget - A budget tour generally involves more camping, some participation, and for some destinations perhaps a little discomfort at times e.g. no access to a shower for a night. BUT not all budget trips require any discomfort. That is why it is important we identify your needs and wants, to ensure we create what is uniquely right for you. That's our job! To get access to some very remote areas 'on a budget' will require some discomfort, but in it comes the rewards. On the other hand flying into a remote luxury bushcamp has no discomfort, but comes at a cost? We are lucky to have choice!

Comfort - A comfort tour generally does not include camping in the 'traditional' sense, we identify anything that would be uncomfortable for you so as not to include it. After all this is your holiday!

Luxury - A luxury tour 'generally' means there is alot more attention to detail; from the way food is presented, to the ingredients, the fittings in your rooms, what's included in the tour and the overall ambiance of your safari experience, will reflect a greater attention to detail.

Many luxury safaris take place in exclusive areas and result in a much higher price, simply due to the location that is perhaps geographically isolated. Fly in camps with no road access would be a good example of an expensive camp to operate, and would be reflected in the price.

Conclusion - Creating your holiday is a 'process' we take seriously; it is after all, perhaps your lifetime dream, or a once in a lifetime trip where you are using many years of saving.

We wish to emphasize our approach to organizing your holiday; We are working with people we employ or know locally, that we own our own camps and vehicles in some destinations, and only include other camps and lodges where we have personally visited or know the owners and their standards well. References from past and present clients are available. We wish to share our passion for Africa in a sustainable way. We endeavour to be different. We ask for your support in finding a new way forward for tourism in Africa.

Our company philosophy: Vintage Destinations take you into wild remote places. While we want you to experience all that Africa has to offer, we also want to ensure that, while travelling, you make the smallest of footprints. Although tourism in Africa has often operated unsustainably from the past to the present, we pride ourselves in thinking and acting in a new way. We are setting a precedent so that your trip can have a positive influence, and help to ensure that the treasures you experience can exist for our grandchildren’s benefit.

Sincerely,
Timothy Jackson
